It's not enough that Drew Westervelt plays attack for lacrosse teams in two different professional leagues. Now the former University of Maryland, Baltimore County athlete wants to score in the laundry aisle, too.
Westervelt is co-founder and COO of Hex Performance, a young company making cleaning products for athletic clothing, gear and equipment. Hex launched its lineup in April and should be showing up now on shelves in Wegmans and Mid-Atlantic Whole Foods grocery stores.
Hex has big growth plans that include moving from its current headquarters in Arnold to Baltimore by the end of the year. Right now, though, the company and its co-founder are trying to introduce consumers to its products. Hex currently markets three separate products: a laundry detergent, a gear wash and a spray for items like yoga mats or shoes.
A single idea ties those three products together. They're all aimed at cleaning and protecting new-age workout gear with synthetic materials — the kind you might see from Baltimore-based Under Armour Inc.
