Lysol (well, disinfecting) bomb/fogger | James Manning's Blog

  • After seeing my son’s teacher spending a good chunk of one morning going through the entire classroom attempting to disinfect every possible surface, I jokingly told her it’d be faster/easier if she could just do a ‘bug bomb’ for microorganisms.  As you might imagine, many others have already had this same idea.

Lysol itself has refused to make it multiple times, each time stating some variation of:

Sorry fogger/bomb type product would not be an effective surface disinfectant due to its limited and possibly uneven coverage of surfaces. Lysol® Disinfectant Spray, in its current form, offers a much more effective solution as it can be used accurately on a specific surface target, especially areas that are prone to carry germs such as handles, knobs, counters and other commonly touched surfaces.

However, there’s a company (seems to be recommended by people various ‘germ-o-phobe’ forums online) that does sell such a thing.

Now, they say "To be used as a finish to regular cleaning (SafeSpace® does not replace regular cleaning)." While that might be for liability reasons, it does seem reasonable to still clean known ‘high-touch’ surfaces manually first.  On that front, I’m going to search around on the tubes for something akin to a disinfecting version of Scotchgard , since you’d rather keep such surfaces from gathering the germs in the first place.  However, that’s a different train of thought/research.
